Building For the Future: New Circ Desk

The new desk was designed by our staff with the aid of Jerilyn Williams, a consulting librarian whose career in libraries was unmatched. The new circulation desk construction was funded by a grant from the Wilton P. and Effie Mae Hebert Foundation. The old one was torn down and new one brought in over the July 4th weekend in 2011.

One of our biggest projects was replacing our old service desk with a brand new one in 2011. This one was designed to meet the 21st century needs of our staff--more room, more technology, more pleasing to the eye. Funds were provided by the Hebert Foundation. The desk was built by Mire Cabinets. Library volunteers removed the old one.

Library volunteers undertook the job of tearing down the old desk, removing the pieces, and cleaning up the space to make way for Mire Cabinets to bring in the pieces of the new desk. It was an exciting time

The old desk was constructed when the building was enlarged in the late 1980's. That was before computers were ever considered to be part of library service. The wiring was very insufficient for modern needs.

This image shows the old desk completely out. We had to add new carpet inside the staff area of the new desk and piece in the carpet around the front of the new desk to match the carpet in the library.
